The Budget session of the Puducherry Assembly begins tomorrow with the customary address of the Lieutenant Governor Dr. Iqbal Singh. However, budget for the financial year 2012 – 13 will not be presented now, as the plan allocation for the Union Territory has not been finalized by the Planning Commission so far. A vote on accounts to meet the expenses of the Government for the first few months of the next financial year will be passed during this first phase of the session which will last for three days. The full budget would be presented later in April. The session is expected to be a stormy one, as the Opposition parties are likely to rake up the issues like removal of about five thousand part-time Government employees, hike in value added tax, delay in distribution of relief to victims of Thane cyclone, violence in Yanam region, etc.
