The All India Radio Gandhian Philosophy and the Public Service Broadcasting awards for the year 2012 were announced today. Bengaluru station won the Gandhian Philosophy award for its programme 'AHIMSEYA PRAVADI' while Jalandhar station's programme 'PATJHAR BANE BASANT' won the Public Service Broadcasting award. The awards were announced by Member Personnel, Prasar Bharati, retired Brigadier V.A.M. Hussain at a function held in the Broacasting House today to commemorate the Public Service Broadcasting day. The day marks Mahatma Gandhi's first visit to the Broadcasting House in 1947.
On the occasion, retired Brigadier Hussain inaugurated recast of the FM Gold and FM Rainbow channels of All India Radio accompanied by their respective new signature tunes. Mr Hussain appreciated AIR for its matchless public service. He said, AIR never forgot its duty to bring disadvantaged sections of the society to the mainstream of broadcasting.
Director General of All India Radio L D Mandloi and Director General AIR – News G. Mohanty were also present at the event.
Our correspondent reports the function saw a presentation of Vadya Vrind and Sadbhavna by orchestra led by Pandit Rasbihari Dutta. The recording of Gandhiji's historic speech of 1947 to refugees camping in Kurukshetra, Haryana was also played back.
Earlier, Mr. Hussain unveiled archive gallery of All India Radio. The gallery brings out a series of volumes in music. The music series contain rare masterpieces rendered by legendary musicians of yesteryears. It also includes instrumental music CDs of various artists such as Raag Rang.
