Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that public sector banks is targeting to disburse education loans worth 70,000 crore rupees during the current fiscal. Speaking at a function at Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu last night, he said students should utilize education loans from banks to shape a better future. Mr Chidambaram said, in ten years, the benefits of education loan scheme will be fully realised. He said, the National Food Security Scheme will be beneficial to all states including Tamil Nadu. The Finance Minister said, 36 lakh 78 thousand tonnes of food grains will be given to Tamil Nadu and the state can save 914 crore rupees as food subsidy.
