Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowernment Thaawarchand Gehlot today said, the public attitude towards persons with disabilitites should change to achieve a sustainable society. Inaugurating the National Conference on Down Syndrome, Mr. Gehlot said, every person with disability, or Divyaang, is a part of mankind and has every right for self development and reasonable opportunities. The minister further lauded the efforts of all those working for the betterment of Down syndrome affected.<br/><br/><br/>Our correspondent reports, the government is coming up with a new law enlarging the categories of disability to 21 from the existing seven. The down syndrome has been recognized in the newly framed disability law. Government is also coming up with ten new schemes aimed at empowering persons with disabilities. <br/><br/>Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21 in the affected individuals. the disorder results in delay in growth, characteristic facial features and mild to moderate intellectual disability.
