Kerala Assembly speaker G. Karthikeyan today urged the people to observe restrain on the Mullaperiyar dam safety issue. He stressed the need to sort out the issue peacefully between the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
In a Press Conference the speaker said that provocative statements from political leaders will not solve the issue.
Meanwhile, thirteen roads from Tamil Nadu to Kerala have been blocked by MDMK party members in Tamil Nadu and subsequently different check posts in Kerala have been closed.
Even as peaceful Sathyagraha and hunger strike are continuing in Idukki to ensure safety of Mullaperiyar dam, road blocks and agitations along Tamil Nadu-Kerala border is causing considerable inconvenience to the people of both the states. Police officials have stepped up vigil to maintain law and order.
Transportation of vegetables and fruits from Tamil Nadu to Kerala is affected and cardamom plantation in Idukki is also hit due to shortage of workers from Tamil Nadu.
