Provisional list of new bank licenses to be announced by January: RBI Dy-governor<br/>

Reserve Bank Deputy Governor K C Chakrabarty has said only a provisional list of new bank licenses will be announced by January. Talking to media persons in Mumbai, Chakrabarty said it will take at least two years for a new bank to become operational. RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan had earlier mentioned that some concrete action will be taken on issuing new bank licences before the end of the term of deputy governor Anand Sinha, who is in charge of banking department, in early February.The RBI had last issued licences in 2002, when Kotak Mahindra Bank and Yes Bank were granted licenses. In the current phase twenty-six entities have applied for the banking licence.
