Protests continued in Egypt for the second day yesterday despite a government ban and more than 500 protestors have been arrested. Demonstrations in downtown Cairo turned violent, with protestors throwing stones and state security firing tear gas to disperse the crowds.UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged all Egyptians to ensure that political protests do not lead to further violence, and called on the Government to see this as an opportunity to engage in addressing the legitimate concerns of the people.In a statement received by Prasar Bharti in Dubai today, his spokesman said that United Nations is closely following the evolving protests and tensions in Egypt and the broader region. US government has urged Egypt to allow peaceful protests.
