In Karnataka, the protests staged by Mandya District Farmer’s Welfare Committee has entered second week. The protests continue against Cauvery River Authority decision to release 9000 cusecs of Cauvery River water to Tamilnadu till October 15. More than 100 Corporators of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike or City municipal corporation joined the protests in Mandya today. Bangalore City Mayor Venkatesha Murthy, who headed the team, urged the Prime Minister to withdraw the CRA directive. He pointed out that there is an acute shortage of water, resulting in drinking water problems in Bangalore city. Mandya District Farmer’s Welfare Committee Chairman Mr.G Madegowda urged the State Government to file a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the CRA decision. The students of Gandhi Bhavan Yoga Kendra took part in the protest by performing different Yoga mudras and Asanas in front of Mahaveer circle. Meanwhile the Pro-Kannada organisations have called for Karnataka Bandh on sixth of next month. The Kannada Film Chamber has extended its support for the bandh. The Chamber President Chandrasekhar said the film industry will shut its activites and support the bandh.
