The Mangalore office of a regional Kannada daily was vandalised on Tuesday night by a group of masked men protesting the publication of an article reportedly based on the writings of Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen. A petrol bomb thrown at the office caused a minor fire but none of the employees of the Kannada daily were hurt. However, computers and furniture were damaged in the incident. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, Bangalore additional Police Commissioner A.M Pujar told that cases under various sections of the IPC has been booked against a Kannada and Urdu dailies for inciting public sentiments. Both the newspapers carried an apology in Tuesday’s issue on front page for publishing the article and the follow-up story. Curfew was relaxed in Shimoga from 7.00 to 8.30 in the morning and imposed thereafter. In Hassan, section 144 is in place but the situation is said to be normal. The DGP Ajay Kumar Singh speaking in Hassan today informed that 61 people have been arrested in connection with the mob violence in these two cities and property loss is being evaluated.
