Protesters of Koodankulam N- plant decide to call off protest

After a 10-day hunger strike, the struggle committee of the Kuddankulam Nuclear power project has decided to call off the protest. Speaking to newsmen after the discussion with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalitha on Wednesday morning, the Coordinator of the protesters, S.P.Udaikumar said that the Chief Minister has assured them that her Cabinet would pass a resolution to press the Centre for halting the project. The committee also appealed the Chief Minister to impress upon the Centre to opt for alternative energy projects rather than atomic energy . Earlier, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's office, Narayansamy met the Chief Minister and apprised her of his meeting with the protesters yesterday.
