In Bahrain, protestors are camping out at Pearl Square calling for sweeping political reforms in the country. They have vowed not to leave the place despite the release of leading Shiite opposition activists and renewed calls by the king for talks. According to Bahrain’s official news agency Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Issa al-Khalifa has renewed an appeal for dialogue the opposition coalition said in a statement that call for dialogue lacked foundations and it should be built on clear foundations. The opposition has demanded the resignation of the government headed by King’s uncle, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman, as a pre-requisite for dialogue. Meanwhile Yemen’s Minister of Tourism, Nabil Al Faki has said that early presidential elections should take place in the country to avoid the fate of the Tunisian and Egyptian leaders. In an open letter to President Saleh, published in the state-run daily Al Syasyah newspaper, the minister suggested that it should coincide with the parliamentary elections that are scheduled for later this year. President Saleh has repeatedly said that he will not run for office when his current term ends in 2013 and his son Ahmed will not succeed him. Saleh has issued orders to his security forces to protect protesters and prevent clashes between pro- and anti-government demonstrators.Thousands of Yemeni anti-regime demonstrators are defiant after one person was killed and two others injured in a bomb explosion during a protest march in the town of Lawdar in Yemen on Thursday. In a related development, Jordan's Cabinet has approved a law making it easier to organize protests. The law will also revive a government body that works to ensure basic commodities remain affordable to the poor. In an attempt to discourage unrest that has spread to neighbouring Bahrain, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah nearly doubles a development fund that helps citizens buy homes, get married, start businesses, and sets up unemployment assistance for the first time.
