In Chennai, over a thousand MDMK, CPI, VCK and PMK party workers and leaders were arrested in different parts of the city when they attempted to stage demonstrations against the visit of Sri Lankan President Rajapakshe to India. Among those arrested include MDMK Party General Secretary Mr. Vaiko, CPI State Secretary Mr. D. Pandian. VCK President Mr. Thol Thirumavalapan and several PMK party MLAs. The parties had organised the protest alleging that the Sri Lankan President was responsible for killing innocent Tamils in the war against the LTTE.<br/>
