Protest demonstrations continue in Andhra Pradesh for separate Telangana state

In Andhra Pradesh, protests continued for a separate Telangana state. The agitation by the students at the Osmania University Campus in Hyderabad gained momentum with some university professors launching a relay hunger strike at campus. The closure of all colleges, hostels and canteens on the campus has drawn flak from various political quarters while the all-party Telangana Joint Action Committee has extended support to the proposed student convention on January 3rd. On the other hand, despite police denying permission, the Students Joint Action Committee is mobilizing large number of students from all over the region for the proposed conclave. Meanwhile, Governor ESL Narsimhan who took charge on Monday has reviewed the law and order situation with the Chief Minister and top police officials.The Telangana Joint Action Committee which is spear heading the political agitation for statehood for Telangana has called for total bandh in the region on Wednesday for which the police have denied permission. The police have warned of stern action against the forcible closure of shops, business entities and stopping transport facilities.Today, the Telangana JAC is continuing awareness programmes at village level and professional and employees are boycotting duties in many districts across the region.Meanwhile, Congress Ministers belonging to Telangana region have said that they will not take back their resignations until the party high command sets a time frame for the formation of a separate Telangana state.
