Protest by unpaid school teachers in Meghalaya

In Meghalaya, the protest by the unpaid school teachers today entered the second day. The Khasi-Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) had gone on protest despite assurances by the state education minister on Monday that the teachers dues to be paid by the end of next month. Mr B K Khongjirem the organising secretary of the teachers association said, the association wants the assurances in written from the government. He said, teachers across the state had stayed away from their duty on Wednesday and the cease work protest will continue till tomorrow.<br/>AIR Shillong correspondent reports, that the congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA) government had decided to pay their dues by next month. A decision to this effect was taken at the first ever cabinet meeting of the MUA government after Chief Minister; Dr Mukul Sangma replaced his predecessor Dr D D Lapang.
