Protect tigers crucial for ecosystem, well-being of humanity: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for protecting tiger for the sake of ecosystem saying that it is crucial for the well-being of humanity. Addressing the 3rd Asia Ministerial Conference on the Tiger Conservation in New Delhi today, Mr Modi said, benefits from tiger conservation are enormous but cannot be quantified in economic terms. Mr Modi said, forests are inseparable from wild life and both are mutually complementary and destruction of one leads to destruction of the other. <br/><br/>Prime Minister said, India has a long standing and successful track record of protecting its tigers. He said, tiger conservation is a collective responsibility of Centre and States. He complimented State governments for their efforts in Tiger Conservation. <br/><br/>Mr Modi said, he believes that tiger conservation or protection of nature is not a drag on development and both can happen in mutually complementary manner. He also said, as a country having more than 70 per cent of global tiger population, India is committed to complement initiatives of other tiger range countries.<br/><br/>More than 700 tiger experts, scientists, managers and other stakeholders from all Tiger Range Countries will discuss issues related to tiger conservation and anti poaching strategies during the three-day event.
