Proposed temple in Bihar not replica of Cambodia's Angkor Wat: Govt

India has reassured Cambodia that a temple called Viraat Ramayan Mandir being built in Bihar is not an exact replica of the Angkor Wat temple, a world heritage site. The Cambodian Embassy in New Delhi had written to the External Affairs Ministry over the proposed project in June this year. They had expressed concern that the design of the proposed temple bears a close architectural resemblance with the Angkor Wat temple which symbolizes Cambodia.

Minister of State for External Affairs V.K.Singh stated in the Lok Sabha today that the Centre took up the matter with the government of Bihar. After its intervention, the promoters of the temple have made substantial alterations in the design of the proposed temple complex.
