Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh urged the media to collectively ensure that objectivity is promoted and sensationalism is curbed.

In a message on the occasion of National Press Day, Dr. Singh said, censorship is not answer for irresponsible journalism. He said, a free and fair media has been an essential pillar of the democracy.

Dr Singh added said since the days of freedom struggle , media has been instrumental in social change, informing readers of their rights and contributing to the nation-building process by spreading awareness.
