The government has exuded confidence that in value terms, projects in the road and shipping sector would cross over 6 lakh crore rupees by the end of March. <br/><br/>Talking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said, Centre has already alloted work of around 4 lakh 60 thousand crore rupees in the road and shipping sector. He also expressed hope that it would meet its highway construction target of 15,000 kilometre for the current fiscal. <br/><br/>Mr Gadkari said that the government was slowly moving toward that target of building 40 to 41 kilometre of highways per day. In a bid to decongest traffic in the country, Mr Gadkari said, government has decided to increase the length of national highways from 96,000 km to two lakh kilometre.
