The government today said the total production of milk, eggs and meat has increased in the country. Replying to questions in the Lok Sabha, Agriculture and Farmers welfare minister Radha Mohan Singh said milk production has increased by 4.38 per cent, eggs 6.42 per cent and meat 8.74 per cent during July 2016 to October 2016 as compared to same period during 2015.<br/><br/>The minister informed the House that the Union government supports the states through many schemes to increase the production of milk, eggs and meat in the country. Mr Singh said, National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development programme was launched in 2014 for genetic upgradation of cows and buffaloes with the aim of enhancing their production and productivity including development of dairy infrastructure. <br/><br/>He said Rashtriya Gokul Mission scheme has been launched from 2014-15 with the objective of conserving and developing indigenous breeds in a focussed and scientific manner with an outlay of 500 crore rupees. The minister also informed that National Livestock Mission has been launched during 2014-15 with an objective for improvement in livestock production including meat in the country.
