Producers of Udta Punjab drags Censor Board to High Court

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap today dragged the Censor Board to the Bombay High Court over the alleged cuts and removal of references to Punjab in his film Udta Punjab. The petition is filed by Phantom films, a production and distribution company established by Anurag Kashyap. <br/><br/>The producers of the film, including Kashyap have demanded a copy of the order passed by the Censor Board's review committee which purportedly suggested cuts. <br/><br/>It says that the government and censor board should share the committee's decision on the objectionable scenes and dialogues in the film. The high court will take up the hearing tomorrow. <br/><br/>Meanwhile Indian Film and Television Directors Association with Udta Punjab team today held a press conference in Mumbai. Anurag Kashyap himself and actor Shahid kapoor, Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and other film personalities were present in the press conference. <br/><br/>Kashyap has refuted CBFC board Chief Pehlaj Nihalani's allegation of money taken from Aam Aadmi Party to make the film for tarnishing image of Punjab. Kashyap said that he will not have to prove his dignity. <br/><br/>He also came down heavily on Nihalani terming him as a dictator for ordering the cuts. With Punjab due for state elections, the controversy has gained political mileage. The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, have, criticised the board.
