Process of govt formation in newly elected assemblies in Tripura, Meghalaya & Nagaland gains momentum

In Tripura, the Left Front victory has brought some cheer for the Front after its loss in West Bengal and Kerala. Our Correspondent reports that the Left Front is all set to stake its claim for forming the next government and the decision is expected to be announced by today evening.

After the results got clear and the win of the Left Front, now all eyes are on government formation in Tripura. The Left Front leaders are meeting in Agartala where the date will be announced for oath taking. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar is expected to meet the Governor soon to stake his Claim for Government Formation in the state.

In Meghalaya, the Congress which has won 29 seats, is not expected to face any hurdle in garnering at least two more legislators to support the party in government formation. Since many of the Independents who won were either supported by the party leaders or were rebel candidates.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma who led the Congress to win a record 29 seats in the 60-member House, will meet Governor RS Mooshahary to stake claim to form the next government, party sources said.

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee working president Deborah Marak said that the Congress will go by the directive of the AICC on the need to have coalition with regional parties or with independents.

Senior AICC leaders are participating in the CLP meeting scheduled to discuss the candidate for the Chief Minister’s post. The CLP meeting is now underway in Shillong.

Newly elected MLAs of Nagaland Peoples Front, NPF will meet in Kohima today to elect Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as its leader.

NPF and its alliance partners BJP and JD(U) will approach Governor Nikhil Kumar to form a new government in the state.

Mr Rio will be the Chief Minister for the third consecutive term. Addressing a press conference in Kohima, he thanked the people of the
state for reposing faith in the NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland.

NPF stormed back to back to power winning 37 seats in the 60-member assembly.
