In Tamil Nadu, election mood has set in as major political parties are in the process of finalizing seat sharing arrangements. The announcement of the polling dates has attracted some dissatisfaction among political parties and they have sought a review of the polling date. In this backdrop, the Chief electoral Officer Mr. Praveen Kumar today addressed the media on the various regulations to be followed by the political parties as the code of conduct is in force presently. The CEO said that for the first time Income tax department officials will also be involved in monitoring cash transactions of the candidates. He said that a district monitoring committee would be constituted in which the officials belonging to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will also be present to monitor all kinds of advertisements. To step up monitoring, Mr. Kumar said that video surveillance will play a major role in monitoring processions, booths and vehicle campaigning and a video surveillance team would monitor the same. Listing out thevarious restrictions on expenditure of the candidates, he said that an accounting team would be checking the expense register which should be maintained everyday The CEO said that a call centre would begin to function in a day or two and will function round the clock to receive any information connected with violation of model code of conduct.With just over a month to go for the assembly elections, the political parties and the election commission are building up the atmosphere to hold the festival of democracy.
