Process of biennial elections for Legislative Council begins in UP

In Uttar Pradesh process of biennial elections to 36 seats of the State legislative council from the local bodies constituencies began today with the issuance of notification. Polling is scheduled on 7th of next month while candidates can file their nominations till 21st of this month. Security will be on the next day.<br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that elected members of the local bodies, Gram pradhans, MLAs and MPs are eligible to the vote in this election. Ruling BSP and main opposition Samajwadi Party have already announced their candidates for all the 36 seats. The BJP has nominated nearly 12 candidates while Congress has announced only nine candidates. The present tenure of incumbents in these 36 seats expires on 15th of next month.<br/>
