Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha came to a halt today as the Opposition Congress forced repeated adjournments of the House accusing the government of conducting raids by Income Tax authorities on their party MLAs from Gujarat, who are staying in a resort in Bengaluru.<br/><br/>The House witnessed five adjournments before finally adjourning for the day over the issue. When the House re-assembled at 2.40 PM, Congress members again trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans against the government. Anand Sharma of the Congress said central forces cannot be sent to a state without its consent unless there is a national or military interest. <br/><br/>His party colleague Pramod Tiwari said 120 personnel of the Income Tax department along with the central forces conducted the raids in Karnataka. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the opposition may continue with its protests but the government will continue its efforts to unearth black money and nobody will be spared. <br/><br/>Treasury bench members also raised counter-slogans from their seats. Before adjourning the House for the day, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien observed that he is helpless as both sides have indulged in shouting slogans. <br/><br/>In the melee, Minister of State for Finance Arjunram Meghwal moved the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2017 for consideration and passage. <br/>As soon as the House met for the day, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said his party MLAs have been kidnapped. <br/><br/>He said a Congress minister in Karnataka, who is coordinating with the visiting MLAs in their stay, was raided and questioned. Mr Azad also alleged that the Government is misusing its power through Central and State agencies for this purpose. Earlier, Leader of House Arun Jaitley denied that any searches or raids were conducted at the resort where the Congress MLAs from Gujarat are put up. <br/><br/>He said a Congress minister was picked up by the authorities and taken to his residence for interrogation. Not satisfied with the clarification by Mr Jaitley, the Congress members trooped into the well raising slogans against the government. Taking note of the situation, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House for ten minutes till 1137 hours.
