Home Minister P Chidambram today expressed hope that problems with some of the UPA allies will be settled amicably. Responding to questions from reporters in New Delhi today, he said that no ally has problem in opening 100 per cent FDI in single brand. The Trinamool Congress had raised serious objections on opening of multi-brand retail when the Cabinet had taken a decision to this effect. The decision has been put on hold for now.
In reply to a question, Mr. Chidambaram said that the Jarwa issue has been referred to Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration for further investigation.
He, however, made it clear that the particular video is four years old. Mr. Chidambaram said that the Batla house encounter in the national capital was genuine and there is no question of opening the issue again.
The Home Minister said that the government is closely watching the situation in Pakistan. He was responding to questions on reported confrontation between Army and the civilian government in the neighbouring country.
Mr. Chidambaram said that a number of bills pertaining to education, anti-corruption and finance are pending for approval of Parliament and urged all parties to join hands for the passage of these bills.
