Minister for communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad has said call drops problem has been resolved to some extent and express hope that the situation will improve further by end of October. He said the ministry is constantly monitoring the situation on weekly basis. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Mr Prasad said all the policy initiatives needed to address the issue have been taken on a pro-active basis.<br/><br/>Replying to a query about the lack of spectrum, the minister said there is no paucity of spectrum and the government has recently approved spectrum sharing and trading. He added that the operators should optimize, synchronise and invest in their network. <br/><br/>Earlier, telecom operators cited shutting down of mobile towers due to radiation fears as well as lack of spectrum as major reasons for call drops. On the issue of Base Transceiver Station, BTS towers, the minister said centre has taken lot of initiatives on policy level and government buildings have been allowed to have fixed the BTS towers.<br/><br/>Rebutting the congress demand for his resignation over call drops issue the minister said in the last 10 years of UPA Government Sanchar Bhawan was known for all the wrong reasons. He alleged that It had become byword for corruption, loot and gross impropriety.<br/><br/>Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed had criticized the government for failing to resolve the call drops problem and said the Minister for communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad should be sacked due to the growing problem of call drops. The Congress leader alleged that the problem shows the incompetence of the Minister.
