Probe ordered into Mathura train accident

In Uttar Pradesh, 15 passengers were killed and over 100 injured when two trains collided near Mathura. A railway official told that the accident occurred when Delhi bound Goa Express hit stationary Mewad Express from behind on early Wednesday morning. One of the bogies is badly damaged while two bogies derailed in the incident. The injured passengers have been rushed to different hospitals and nursing homes for treatment.<br/><br/>The Railway Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, who is in Kolkata, has ordered an inquiry into the mishap. The commissioner of railway safety would conduct the probe from Thursday. Senior officers of Mathura administration and railways have reached on the spot and rescue and relief operation is going on. Train traffic on this route of Agra division of Northern Central Railway has been disrupted.<br/><br/>Army has also rushed around 150 personnel, including eight officers and 140 jawans, equipped with gas cutters to carry out rescue operation at the accident site.<br/><br/>Ms Mamata Banerjee has also announced an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees for the next of the kin of those killed in the accident .According to the Northern Railway spokesman, one lakh rupees each will be given to the seriously injured passengers while those with minor injuries will get ten thousand rupees. Ms Banerjee has also asked all the senior officials of concerned Zonal Railways for enhancing and monitoring of relief and rescue operations at the accident site.<br/>
