Private member's Bill to provide for the constitution of the National Inspection and Investigation Committee for preparation of the Uniform Civil Code and its implementation across the country was introduced in Rajya Sabha today. The Uniform Civil Code Bill 2022 was moved by BJP MP Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena.  During division, 63 members of the House voted in favour of the introduction of the Bill while 23 voted against it.  Several opposition MPs objected to the introduction of the Bill. Left MPs described it as against the Constitution and demanded its withdrawal. Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav also expressed similar views. Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah of Congress said, this Bill is dangerous for the country's democracy. Jawahar Sircar of TMC termed the Bill unconstitutional and anti-secular.  Union Minister Piyush Goyal urged the members to let the Bill be introduced as it is the right of the member. Manoj Kumar Jha of RJD urged the withdrawal of Bill saying that this will create the difference in society.
