In Jammu and Kashmir entire Private Media continued its boycott of the proceedings of the Legislature for the third consecutive day today protesting against Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone's alleged remarks that media was under his control. Both print and electronic private media, this morning again assembled outside the Legislative Assembly complex and sat on dharna demanding the Speaker to 'expunge' his remarks. As soon as the Question Hour began today, members from Treasury and Opposition benches raised the issue of the Media Boycott and pleaded with the Speaker that invitation should go from the august House to the Media to give up their boycott and resume their duties in the press gallery.However, during the discussions, Opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP members entered into a heated argument with a National Conference MLA over his remarks that the Speaker had not said anything objectionable which should have prompted the Private Media to boycott the House proceedings and added that Media should discharge their duties in a responsible manner. This led to a verbal duel between the National Conference MLA and PDP legislators who later staged a walkout from the Assembly on the remarks of NC legislator. Four legislators of BJP also walked out on the issue. However, on the insistence of Minister of Parliamentary affairs and some other opposition legislators, Speaker made an appeal to the Media to resume their duties in the Press galleries.However, the entire Private Media is adamant that unless Speaker expunges his remarks made about the Media, they will not resume covering the proceedings of the Legislature.AIR correspondent reports, Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members entered into a heated argument with a National Conference MLA Nazir Ahmed Gurezi over his remarks that the Speaker had not said anything objectionable which should have prompted the Private Media to boycott the House proceedings and added that Media should discharge their duties in a responsible manner.This led to the walkout by PDP members from the Assembly. Sagar and some other opposition legislators, Speaker made an appeal to the Media to resume their duties in the Press galleries. However, the entire Private Media is adamant that unless Speaker expunges his remarks made about the Media, they will not resume covering the proceedings of the Legislature. Speaker, Mohd. Akbar Lone clarified that he has all the regard for the Freedom of the Press and believes that the Press is the fourth pillar of the democracy but made it clear that inside the House it is not only the Legislators (ruling and opposition), the Chief Minister and Ministers but the Press as well who are governed by the guidelines of a Rule book.
