Prithviraj Chavan, Ajit Pawar to be sworn in today

Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan will be sworn in as the next chief minister of Maharashtra this evening. He will replace Ashok Chavan who has recently resigned following the Adarsh Society Scam. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 4.30 p.m. at the Raj Bhawan in which Governor K. Sankaranarayanan will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Chavan his deputy Ajit Pawar and a host of other leaders who would form the new cabinetThough congress has not yet officially declared their probable list of ministers who would take oath today, NCP official has said that 10 legislators including Chaggan Bhujbal, Sunil Tatkare, Jayant Patil and R R Patil would be part of the new cabinet. Chaggan Bhujbal who paved way for Ajit Pawar for the post of deputy chief minister is expecting an important portfolio.Chavan and Ajit Pawar late yesterday night handed over letters to the governor confirming support of 170 MLAs and staked claim to form the next Democratic Front government in the state. Speaking to the reporters after the meeting, Chavan said that his government enjoys the support of 170 MLAs in the 288 strong assemblies.
