Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan will be the next Maharashtra Chief Minister. Chavan's name was formally announced by senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee this morning in New Delhi, after a meeting with the Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Chavan also met Mrs Gandhi early today and Pranab Mukherjee and AK Antony joined them. Congress president met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh this morning in this regard.After the announcement, Prithviraj Chavan said he accept the responsibility with all humility. Mr Chavan expressed his hope to do the best.Meanwhile, the NCP has welcomed the decision to appoint Prithviraj Chavan as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Party leader Sharad Pawar said that it is a good and right decision. NCP top leadership is meeting later in the day in Mumbai to take stock of situation.
