Prithvi Raj Chavan will be the new chief Minister of Maharashtra. He is at present Minister of state in Prime Minister's office. Speaking to reporters, senior congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced this in New Delhi a short while ago. Mr Mukherjee along with Defence Minister A K Antony met Congress President Sonia Gandhi this morning to find a successor to the outgoing Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan. AIR correspondent reports that NCP top leadership is meeting later in the day to take stock of situation. Earlier, in the morning Sonia Gandhi met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
