Union Food Processing Minister Subodh Kant Sahai has said that the food processing sector would have a priority in the forthcoming budget. He said it on the sidelines of a conference in the city. The minister said in Mumbai that the food processing industry will be a priority as it is one of the growing sectors and is going to be the largest employment generator in the next years. However, he said that the need of the Government wants more public-farmers mover up the value-chain, which will create employment opportunities in the country. Commenting on lack of marketing and poor cold storage facilities that lead to wastage of agri-produce and vegetables, Mr Sahai said that the Government has made it tax-free for those who want to set up cold storages.
