The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on day said that despite social media playing an ever-increasing role in our lives, the relatively static print medium retains a special relevance as it could be more credible and better informed.
Inaugurating the 90th anniversary celebrations of Mathrubhumi newspaper at Kochi, he said the Malayalam daily was an example of such journalism in the country that the people have trusted for so long.
Dr Singh said we live in times of great turmoil, which is continuously reported to us in great detail by the media.
Unlike in the past, the media, particularly the social media, too sometimes contributes to making news which affects our lives.
Speaking at another function in Kochi, Dr Singh said present generation of politicians and public servants has a lot to learn from veteran Congress leader and former Meghalaya governor M M Jacob. While felicitating Jacob on the occasion of his 85th birthday celebrations in Kochi, the Prime Minister said he represented the old school of politicians and administrators.
