Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi last night after attending the 6th BRICS Summit in the coastal city of Fortaleza in Brazil.
On his way back, Mr Modi made a transit halt at Frankfurt and had a telephonic talk with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. An official spokesperson said that the PM had a fruitful conversation with the German Chancellor.
Modi congratulated Merkel for the splendid victory of the German team in the recent football world cup and also conveyed his good wishes for her 60th birthday, which was yesterday.
Our correspondent reports that during his visit, Mr Modi had bilateral meetings with leaders from Russia, China, Brazil, and South Africa
The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being termed as a very important and fruitful one as far as the diplomatic gain to India is concerned.
The presidentship of the BRICS Development Bank to India was a milestone of Modi's leadership which was even praised in teh international media.
Several of the proposals he made at the 6th BRICS summit, were adopted for action through the Fortaleza Declaration.
India signed important bilateral agreements with Brazil and also had bilateral talks with all the BRICS countries including China, Russia and South Africa besides meeting with the heads of several South American nations.
India also used the BRICS forum to boldly raise the demand of reforms in United Nations and its Security Council.
