Prime Minister Narendra Modi met top executives of eleven American companies, over breakfast at the New York Palace Hotel today. It was more of business than breakfast. Google's Eric Schmidt, Citigroup's Michael Corbat, MasterCard's Ajay Banga and Pepsico's Indra Nooyi were among those who met Mr. Modi.
Ministry of external Affairs spokesperson tweeted after the breakfast meeting that Mr Modi told the CEOs that infrastructure development is a big opportunity in India. It creates jobs and enhances quality of life of citizens. He also said India is an open-minded country and wants to change. Mr Modi informed that the change is not one sided. He is now discussing with citizens, industrialists and investors in this regard.
The one-to-one meeting with James McNerney who is Heading Boeing is over. Mr McNerney said during the meeting that Boeing wants to accelerate engagement with India. This meeting is being followed by back to back meetings with other Chief Executive officers of five more companies. In another meeting with Virginia Romnetty, CEO of IBM, Prime Minister discussed software for Smart Cities and Digital India Initiative. This meeting is being followed by back to back meetings with Chief Executive officers of four more companies.
In response to Mr Modi’s call for investments, global investment management company Black Rock is to host global investors meet in India early next year.
Prime Minister is also expected to meet Mr Bill Clinton and Mrs Hillary Clinton today. He is also scheduled to address Council for foreign relations before leaving for Washington DC where he is going to have private dinner with US President Mr Barack Obama at White House tonight.
