The prime accused in the brutal murder of a 22-year-old Dalit youth in Udumalpet in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu surrendered before Magistrate today who remanded him to seven days judicial custody. In a suspected Honour Killing, a young Dalit engineering student was hacked to death by his Hindu wife's family members yesterday. <br/><br/>While husband Sankar died on the spot, his wife Kausalya ,who suffered a severe head injury was admitted to the government hospital in Coimbatore. The murderous attack was captured on a surveillance camera installed in the locality and aired by Television channels had sent shock waves across the state. <br/><br/>The murder sparked widespread protest in Tamil Nadu with political parties and Dalit outfits demanding the government to take stern action against the culprits and to pass a separate law to deal with honour killings. <br/><br/>Tirupur police who registered a case formed six separate special investigation team to arrest the assailants involved in the killing. Meanwhile the National Commision for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) has sought a status report from Tamil Nadu government on the incident.
