Congress today said prices of different variety of pulses have increased by 85 to 200 per cent within a year. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, party spokesperson Rita Bahuguna accused the central government of failing to import adequate quantities of Arhar Dal in time, despite the fact that the pulse has the highest consumption in all parts of the country. She said, in March this year, the crop estimate report showed huge decline in production of pulses but the government waited till June to act. She said, there is a shortfall of around 15 lakh tonnes but government is importing only five thousand tonnes.
