Price rise issue rocks parliament: RS adjourned for the day

The price rise issue today rocked both Houses of Parliament leading to their repeated adjournments. While the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day, the Lok Sabha till 2 P.M. There was trouble over the issue right from the word go in both Houses of Parliament with the entire opposition up on their feet. Several Opposition members were shouting slogans and even trooped into the well of the House in both the Houses.In the Lok Sabha, the Leader of the Opposition Mrs. Sushma Swaraj said that the recent increase in the prices of kerosene and LPG, has upset the budget of the house wives and the poor and the opposition in one voice wants a discussion on the issue. She claimed that not only the opposition but even some of the allies and constituents of UPA had taken part in the Bharat Bandh on the issue. She also wanted to know the decision of the Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar on the notice for adjournment motion she and others have given for a discussion on price rise. However, the Speaker wanted the opposition to allow the House to carry on with the question hour. However, the Opposition refused to heed to her pleas and ultimately she adjourned the House till 12′ O clock. Later the House was again adjourned till 2 P.M. after laying of papers including the statement by the Petroleum Minister Mr. Murli Deora on the hike in the prices of petroleum products. In the din, the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee also introduced a Bill to amend the RBI, Insurance Act, the Security Contract and SEBI Acts.The Rajya Sabha, also witnessed similar scenes and the House was first adjourned till noon and then for the day. Apart from price rise issue, some members belonging to Shiv Sena were seen displaying placards on the Babhli river dispute between Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Earlier two new members of the House took oath in Rajya Sabha.
