The deadlock continued for the third day on Thursday in Parliament over the nature of debate on the Price Rise issue. A determined Opposition stalled proceedings in both the Houses. Opposition parties protested both inside and outside the House a day after Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar rejected the Opposition's demand for debating the issue as an adjournment motion that entails voting. A BJP delegation comprising L.K. Advani, Nitin Gadkari and Sushma Swaraj called on the President Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil's and submitted a memorandum seeking her intervention in this regard. Talking to reporters outside Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mr Advani expressed surprise over Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's statement on the price rise and said that the Opposition has made use of all the methods to register people's protest over the issue. Non NDA opposition parties demonstrated in the Parliament House complex, demanding a roll-back in the hike of fuel prices. The CPI-M, CPI, RJD, Janata Dal-Secular, AIADMK and Telugu Desam Party participated in the demonstration seeking a discussion under rules which have a specific provision for voting. CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told reporters that they want the adjournment motion to be accepted. AIR Parliamentary correspondent reports that the protests were held amidst repeated adjournments in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the Congress has strongly criticised Opposition parties for continued disruption of Parliamentary proceedings. It said, the opposition's game plan is aimed at diverting people's attention from scams in Karnataka and murder case in Gujarat. Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Thursday, Party Spokesman, Abhishek Manu Singhvi described the BJP-led opposition's behaviour in Parliament as unfortunate, unfair and unjustified. He accused the opposition parties of showing disrespect to the ruling of the Lok Sabha Speaker. Mr Singhvi described as opportunistic the game plan of the principle opposition BJP joining hands with the Left parties to disrupt the proceedings in both the houses. Replying to a question, Mr Singhvi said the government is fully concerned over the price rise issue and is prepared for a detailed discussion.
