Price of essential commodities reported a significant decline in March this year compared to previous years: Govt

Price of essential commodities reported a significant decline in March this year compared to previous years, as per data shared by the Ministry of Consumers Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution. Nearly 23 percent decline in the price of garlic, 9 percent in onion, 6 percent in coconut and ginger, 4 percent in apple, and 3 percent in rice has been reported in March this year compared to March last year. The drop in prices is due to the several proactive and pre-emptive measures of the Government to augment domestic availability and stabilize prices of essential food commodities.

Prices of Jowar and its products dropped to nearly 2 percent in March this year compared to last year during the same month. Similarly, compared to March last year, during March this year, kharbooza, pulses-arhar, and tur dal reported a price drop of nearly one percent, moong and urad dal nearly two percent, tamarind nearly 10 percent, and coconut oil nearly 14 percent.
