President, Vice President and Prime Minister today led the nation in paying tributes to the country's first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his 122nd birth anniversary today.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and other dignitaries also paid floral tributes to Nehru at Shanti Van, his memorial on the banks of Yamuna.
An all religion prayer meeting was held and students sang patriotic songs to mark the occasion.
Nehru was born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
His birthday is also celebrated as Children's Day as he was fond of kids.
Several functions are being organised to celebrate the Day.
National Book Trust is organising a week long book exhibition in schools across Delhi and National Capital Region.
A fair is also being held for children where they can participate in Story telling, poster and painting making and quiz competitions along with several other cultural activities.
