Prez urges scientists to prioritise research on food, energy security & housing problems

The President, Mrs. Prathibha Patil has urged the Scientific community to take initiative to meet the requirement of food, water, energy and housing. Addressing the concluding function of the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the Indian National Science Academy at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kolkata this morning, the President said that the role of scientists to deal with issues of water, food security, energy security, prevention of diseases and medical discoveries is enormous.<br/>Mrs. Patil said that since natural resources are already being over-utilised, scientists can only show more efficient ways of production with new options to meet the challenges. The President also stressed the need for taking the benefits of sciences to villages and cities for betterment of humanity. State Governor, Mr. Gopal Krishna Gandhi, West Bengal Information and Technology Minister, Dr. Debesh Das and President of Indian National Science Academy M. Vijayan also addressed the gathering.<br/> <br/>AIR Kolkata correspondent Arijit Chakraborty reports that noted scientists across the globe will discuss climate changes, food security, energy conservation, water resources and other contemporary issues of sciences during the four-day long celebration.<br/><br/>The President will inaugurate solar system power project at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata this evening.<br/><br/> <br/>
