President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will inaugurate the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Maharashtra Legislature at the Vidhan Bhavan in South Mumbai this evening.

The President is herself a former member of the Maharashtra Assembly and entered the house at the age of 27. She served as a Minister and Leader of the Opposition during her tenure.

The two-day event will celebrate the 75-year long journey of Maharashtra’s bicameral legislature, which has a 289-member Assembly and a 78-member council.
