The Congress led UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee and the BJP backed contestant P A Sangma are to file their nomination papers for the Presidential polls today. Mr. Mukherjee, who resigned on Tuesday night as Finance minister will file his nomination papers in the presence of Senior leaders of the UPA including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and alliance Chairperson and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters in New Delhi yesterday that as many as 480 MPs and MLAs, including Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, Congress Legislature Party leaders and PCC chiefs are among the proposers and seconders of Mukherjee's nomination. He said that Mr Mukherjee will file his nomination papers at 11 AM today for the July 19 Presidential poll.
Presidential contestant P.A Sangma is likely to be accompanied by senior leaders from BJP, Janata Party, and MPs from AIADMK, BJD and SAD, among others when he will file his nomination papers.
