Prez poll: Oppn candidate Meira Kumar seeks support from Meghalaya legislators

Seeking support from Legislators of Meghalaya for the upcoming Presidential election, Opposition's Presidential candidate, Meira Kumar today said that voice of people's conscience carries more weightage than numbers in her battle for the country's top constitutional post of President.<br/><br/>Addressing legislators at the Annexe hall of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly today, Mrs. Meira Kumar said that this is the first time in the history of the country that the Presidential Election has been turned into a battle of ideology.<br/><br/>Informing that 17 major national political parties in the country have taken the decision to contest the presidential election based on their sacred ideology, she lamented that an atmosphere has been created in the country now which is threatening the social fabric and social harmony. <br/><br/>Mrs. Kumar said that India is a vast country with diverse culture, ethnicity and way of life, but now attempts are being made to communalise the atmosphere in the name of religion, food practise and different ways of life.<br/><br/>The Congress presidential candidate has also written to many stakeholders to support her candidature and listen to their inner voice of conscience. The meeting was attended by MLAs including Congress United Democratic Party and other independent candidates.
