The Election Commission has rejected the petition of opposition-backed Presidential nominee P A Sangma camp for the re-scrutiny of UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee's nomination over the office of profit issue.
Citing previous verdicts of the Supreme Court on the Presidential Election, Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampat and Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma said in a detailed order that all the doubts and disputes regarding election to the President's office can only be decided by the Apex court. Hence the petition filed by Mr. Sangma's camp was not maintainable before the Election Commission.
