Prez Patil urges scientists to develop low cost technological solutions

The President Mrs. Prathibha Devi Singh Patil has called upon scientists to develop low cost technological solutions that are easy to implement and which remain within the reach of the end users. Inaugurating the State Wide Area Network, SWAN project at Kavaratti in Lakshadweep on Thursday afternoon, the President stressed the need for encouraging greater interaction between the scientific community and the public, so that the needs of the people can be incorporated in scientific research. <br/>She said, the effort of the government is to make every constituent of the nation strong and follow a strategy that allows the benefits of growth reach all citizens. She noted that the medical community has a special role in ensuring public health, and urged them to come forward to serve in remote areas. <br/>The President said development of tourism in Lakshadweep should be undertaken without affecting the ecological balance and natural beauty of the islands. Earlier, Mrs. Patil inaugurated an ICU at the Kavaratti Indira Gandhi hospital. The President, who is on a three day visit to Lakshadweep, later left for Bangaram Island Resort, where she will spent the next two days. <br/>
