President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil has urged All Central Government Ministry and Departments to ensure Economic empowerment of disabled persons . In her speech read in absentia at a function to confer National Awards for the empowerment of persons with disabilities Patil also called for all back log vacancies belonging to this category of people immediately . She also urged the corporate world to provide more employment to them as the part of corporate social responsibility.

The President also stress the need that persons with disabilities must be enabled through education to get enough opportunities for gainful employment and status in the society. The speech read by the Social Justice Minister Mukul Wasnik also made a plea to remove physical barriers that do not allow disabled persons to various facilities and services.
