President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil who is at Chinese commercial capital Shanghai in her last leg of China state visit will be visiting World Expo on Sunday. The six-month long trade fair, begun in Shanghai on May first has been attracting large crowds. India has also set-up its pavilion in the Expo. As both the countries have set a bilateral business target of 60 billion US dollars, the Expo has provided a forum to seek new avenues in trading, besides exploring possibilities of diversifying the trade basket. <br/>The President while addressing the gathering at the Indian Community reception in Shanghai last evening has said, India’s participation at the Shanghai Expo is an integral part of its outreach to the Chinese people, which allows India to project its values and ethos.<br/>AIR Correspondent covering the President’s visit reports that total bilateral trade between both the countries has grown at a tremendous rate for last four years except for the year 2008-09 which was primarily marred by global slow-down and financial crisis. Although this trade was in the favour China as India’s total export to China was around 9,353 million US dollars against imports from China of more than 32 thousand million US dollars during that year. Both the sides are cooperating in number of functional areas including finance, agriculture, energy, environment and Information Technology. To boost cooperation in Science and Technology, the two countries have established an India-China partnership in the field. Indian business community will meet members of the business delegation accompanying the President to put across the issues, problems, prospects and success stories to them. <br/>China is now India’s second largest trading partner after UAE but trade imbalance is the major cause of concern the Indian leadership and business community. They have raised it every forum including political and economic. China has shown its interest in several fields to have a balanced trade. Experts say, services and knowledge trade between both the countries has significant potential for growth in areas like bio-technology, IT, health education, tourism and financial sector. Both the countries have also been furthering cooperation in regional and multilateral fora on global issues such as World Trade Negotiations and energy security. Indian business community has great expectations from the President’s current visit to boost economic activities between neighbouring nations. <br/>On the 5th day of her 6-day State visit to China, President Smt. Patil will unveil a statue of Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore at Mao Ming Road in Shanghai. <br/>
